Book Reading: Science in Resistance with Fernando Racimo (part of Films For Future)

26 November @ 6:30 pm - 9:30 pm

Around the world, scientists are engaging in climate justice and species protection beyond their labs and academic positions. In April 2022, hundreds of them in 30 countries blocked government buildings, glued themselves to streets, and chained themselves to the fences in front of the White House.

Fernando Racimo, evolutionary researcher and professor at the University of Copenhagen, collects first-hand accounts of scientists’ civil disobedience in his book. He combines personal stories with interviews from frontline activists, offering insights into the world of research and resistance, and examining the challenges academics faced after their uprising.

The author also reflects on his own role in the movement and the path that led him to become a scientist-activist.

The reading (in English) was a call to view science as an active force for societal change.

About “films for future“: The film festival aims to raise public awareness of environmental and sustainability issues. Over 50 films, including premieres and international productions, were shown in November 2022 and 2023 as well as at around 160 events. A total of 13,255 people attended the events in 2022 and 2023, many of which were sold out.
