Zurich RS recently joined as one of GreenBuzz’s important yearly partners. Here we sat down for a chat with their team to find out more about the past, present and future of climate resilience.
Q: What first prompted you to become a GreenBuzz partner?
A: We were looking for a network that aims for cross-sectoral connections and collaborations, as well as informed exchanges between business leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, and regulators. Ultimately, we wanted an environment with a sincere commitment to making sustainability the new normal in business.
Q: We’ve met up at a few of our events – what has been your favourite so far?
A: This year’s Swiss Climate Reporting Forum was a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with our clients, forge new partnerships within the climate adaptation industry, and gain valuable market insights. And with the year only halfway through, we’re excited for even more networking opportunities ahead – especially the upcoming Sustainable Business Summit in November.
Q: How important is sustainability to Zurich Resilience Solutions?
A: Supporting our clients’ long-term climate resilience strategy on physical climate risk is at the core of our business model, which is why we take our role in driving sustainability very seriously. This commitment is also reflected in Zurich Group’s overarching sustainability strategy which is leveraging our expertise as a risk advisor, risk carrier, and investor to help organizations adapt and thrive amid natural, societal, economic, and financial risks. We are proud to be part of a team that has once again been recognized for its achievements by MSCI (AAA rating), ISS ESG (among the sustainability leaders in our industry), and others.

Q: Tell us about the sustainability journey of Zurich RS’s clients over the years.
A: Over the past few years, it made sense for our clients, for several reasons, to primarily bundle resources and focus on mitigation activities. However, with both current and anticipated physical climate risks, we are seeing a significant strategic shift among many clients towards increased attention on adaptation. In best-in- Confidential \ Non Personal Data class examples, climate resilience has become a board- and C-level priority, embedded within enterprise risk management and sustainability strategies, and extending beyond their own operations to include supply chains. Our role is to help all our clients reach this level of integration and preparedness.
Q: What sustainability challenges does your industry need to overcome?
A: As an industry, we need to continuously improve data quality. Only reliable data allows businesses and the public sector to make the right long-term decisions. However, sophisticated climate models are only one piece of the puzzle, they help identifying risks. But just as crucial is the practical advice we must provide as advisors on how to assess, including quantification, respond and monitor to these risks. Ultimately, this will enable organizations to manage climate resilience challenges more effectively.
Q: If you could make one change to make the world more sustainable, what would it be?
A: Our vision is a world where both the private and public sectors not only reduce their environmental impact but also build strong systems to withstand and recover from future climate challenges. Achieving this requires true collaboration across industries, between businesses and governments, and throughout the entire sustainability community.
Thank you for your time!
