SUMMARY:Unlocking Inner Capacities for Climate Action
DESCRIPTION:In early March\, GreenBuzz\, together with the IDG Switzerland – Climate Week Zurich Network\, hosted an experiential IDG Lab as a pre-event for Climate Week Zurich contributors. \nThe workshop invited participants to explore how inner capacities such as presence\, sense-making\, trust\, and collaboration can strengthen climate-related dialogue\, decision-making\, and participation. Through interactive exercises and guided exchanges\, participants engaged with simple IDG micro-practices and reflected on how these could be integrated into their own Climate Week Zurich sessions. \nBy bringing together CWZ partners and contributors ahead of the week\, the lab helped strengthen connections and support the design of events that foster deeper engagement\, collaboration\, and collective impact. \nThank you to everyone who joined and contributed to this inspiring exchange.

SUMMARY:Reflect & Reconnect: An Intentional Afterwork
DESCRIPTION:On 5 February\, GreenBuzz and TransformAction Lab hosted an intentional afterwork designed to create space for pause and reflection at the start of an intense new year. \nIn a world shaped by constant change\, increasing demands\, and growing expectations\, the evening invited participants to reconnect with key questions: What motivates us? What sustains us? What connects us to our intentions in the long run? \nThrough guided prompts and facilitated exchanges in different group constellations\, attendees engaged in meaningful conversations that went beyond small talk. The space allowed sustainability and climate professionals to reflect on shared challenges\, reconnect with their purpose\, and strengthen their sense of community. \nThe evening concluded with a shared Apéro\, offering further opportunity to connect in a relaxed and supportive atmosphere. \nThank you to everyone who joined and contributed to such a thoughtful and grounding start to 2026.

SUMMARY:Informal Drinks: Greenwashing
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the oil giant Shell announced its aim to spend between $2 billion and $3 billion per year on renewables and energy solutions. It also reported having directed 12 percent of its capital expenditure to these areas. However\, international NGO Global Witness claims that the company directed just 1.5 percent of its capital expenditure to developing renewable energy sources\, such as wind and solar power\, with the rest of the spending going toward gas. As a result\, Shell is now facing accusations of greenwashing and misleading investors (see Washington Post 2023). We see similar examples in the press every day. \nGreenwashing refers to the practice of making false or misleading claims about how a company’s products are environmentally sound and involves making an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into thinking that a product or company is more environmentally friendly than it actually is. \nAs businesses and organizations increasingly try to position themselves as environmentally and socially responsible\, it can be difficult to discern genuine sustainability efforts from mere marketing stunts. \nJoin us and Greenwishing on June 21st to discuss the following questions: \n\nHow can we recognize Greenwashing?\nWhat regulations are coming to prevent Greenwashing?\nHow do we call out examples?\nGreenwashing accusations have damaged important Green initiatives\, how do we prevent this?\n\nBy becoming better informed\, we can help to hold businesses and organizations accountable for their environmental and social claims and contribute to a more sustainable future!

SUMMARY:Informal Drinks - The Road to Carbon-Free Energy
DESCRIPTION:Join us for these Informal Drinks after work on March 17th to discuss how we can shift to carbon-free energy! Electrification is critical to decarbonise various sectors. However\, it is not enough anymore for a company to claim that they use 100% renewable energy as that does not necessarily equate to carbon-free energy. Each hour of energy consumption must be matched by an hour of carbon-free energy generation. \nWe are not on track to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 7 (SDG7)\, which demands access to affordable\, reliable\, sustainable and modern energy for all by 2030. The United Nations have set an ambitious goal with their 24/7 Carbon-Free Energy Compact and have put together a set of principles and actions that stakeholders across the energy ecosystem can commit to in order to drive systemic change. \nSo how do we embrace the rapidly developing technologies and move away from our reliance on fossil fuels? How do we use transition technologies such as nuclear and natural gas and how do we build the needed renewable energy infrastructure required? \nThis topic is very much in the media and public conscience but what is the latest research and how can industries and individuals work together to build the carbon-free future we all aim for. To achieve net-zero emissions across the global economy by 2050\, electricity must decarbonize even faster\, while becoming the core of a just and accessible energy system. \nAt this event\, you will hear from Christian Schaffner\, Executive Director\, Energy Science Center (ESC) ETH Zürich to give you some food for thought. Afterwards\, you are invited to simply mingle and have a drink with us and the GreenBuzz community.

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Thematic New Year's Event: Getting a Head Start on Sustainability Trends
DESCRIPTION:A new year begins\, and although the year might be new\, the challenges we face are not. Nonetheless\, we want to start 2022 with a positive mindset and bring hope for new opportunities and changes. \nTogether with our partner WWF Switzerland\, we invite you to our Thematic New Year’s Event to kick off 2022. Together with you\, we want to map out the most relevant and pressing sustainability topics of this year. The outcomes will directly impact some of our GreenBuzz 2022 calendar. \nJoin us to be part of the discussion & share what you think will be the most important sustainability topics in your field or industry! \nIn addition to an inspiring keynote\, we will also facilitate group discussions divided according to industries. \nWho better to help us start the conversations than our GreenBuzz topic experts\, who each specialize in one sustainability field and can give an outlook on new innovations and progress within their respective industry. \nBreakout group topics will include: \n\nCircular Economy (led by Patricia Matzdorf-Gobeli & Tobias Stucki)\nSustainable Finance & Investing (led by Camilla Leopoldino & Emma Farrell)\nClimate Change (led by Jeffrey Belt & Liesbeth Deddens)\nFood & Agriculture (led by Mounia Boujija & Fidel Chiriboga)\nTourism\, Travel and mobility (led by Alexie Duncker & Petra Krivinskas)\nSustainable Construction (led by Christina Nakhle & Ashuhan Dogan)\nTrends in 2022 –  Open discussion (led by Lim Adriaenssens\, Holger Hendricks & Marie Froehlicher)\n\nThe world needs us to continue to act this year and to walk the talk. While COP26 did not necessarily bring about the clear roadmaps and regulatory changes that are needed to stay on a 1.5° degree trajectory\, we all need to continue pushing for more sustainability in our respective industries. \nLet’s get inspired to do more – together!

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Cryptocurrency & Sustainability - A Contradiction in Terms?
DESCRIPTION:Switzerland has been one of the leading players in the global adoption of tokenized digital assets and Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT). With people being able to use cryptocurrency to pay anything from a restaurant visit to their taxes the possibilities seem endless. But with all the opportunities that these digital currency alternatives seem to present\, we ask ourselves – how sustainable are cryptocurrencies? \nElon Musk turned this question into a hot topic when Tesla suspended Bitcoin saying: “We are concerned about rapidly increasing use of fossil fuels for Bitcoin mining and transactions\, especially coal\, which has the worst emissions of any fuel. Cryptocurrency is a good idea on many levels and we believe it has a promising future\, but this cannot come at great cost to the environment.” \nCome to this event to discover and discuss: \n\nThe amount of energy being consumed by cryptocurrencies\nWhy some cryptocurrencies are more energy efficient than others\nThe volatility of cryptocurrencies\nIf cryptocurrency can be a lever for a more fair society\nThe ethics of cryptography

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series - Towards Net Zero
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \nThe latest report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has once again made it clear that we must act collectively now to prevent the worst consequences of climate change. As governments around the world introduce new regulations to reduce CO2 emissions\, businesses are expected to follow suit. They find themselves in a race against time to meet the ‘Net Zero by 2050’ target. The stakes could not be higher. By limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees\, it is understood that the most harmful effects of climate change may be mitigated. How well companies adapt to the new guidelines will be critical to reaching the 2050 goal. \nA recent study suggests that over 20% of the world’s largest public companies have committed to net zero. And the majority of those companies also have interim targets\, a published plan and a reporting mechanism in place for their commitments. However\, the study also indicates that the “net zero commitments assessed varied hugely in their quality and only 20% met the minimum set of robustness criteria\, or ‘starting line’\, as set out by the UN Race to Zero Campaign.” \nThe study leaves some open questions such as: Are the commitments enough? What can we learn from our past successes and failures? What are the greatest hurdles to overcome  to achieve net zero? What reporting standards can we align to? \nMany in our GreenBuzz community are striving towards the same goal of achieving net zero. At this event we will discuss: \n\nScience aligned targets\,\nfollowing a decarbonising strategy\,\nmeasuring and reporting on their progress.\n\nWe invite our speakers and audience to learn from each other\, share insights and make connections that can elevate the work that is being done to a speed that will meet our climate targets.  As a take away from this event\, you will have a clearer idea on tackling your net-zero goals.
