SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Sustainability from Space!
DESCRIPTION:[German Version Below] \nThis event was part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \nIn an era of unprecedented access to data and advanced analysis\, accurate geographic information is transforming the efficiency and sustainability of many industries – not least those of agriculture and forestry. \nThe potential of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) was acknowledged as far back as 2012 by the UN’s “The Future We Want”\, recognising “the relevance of global mapping and the efforts in developing global environmental observing systems”. \nNow in this rapidly developing scene\, we took a look at the state of play\, and the current challenges and opportunities. \n\n\nAhead of the upcoming implementation of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR)\, this event brought together experts from policy\, academia\, technology and industry to discuss innovative strategies and practical solutions for adapting to these changes. \nIn doing so\, cross-industry experts discussed: \n\nHow is spatial mapping being used to monitor and protect forests?\nHow can geo-observation increase efficiencies and sustainability in agriculture?\nWhat is the role of centralised data storage and management platforms?\nHow can GIS enhance transparency and traceability across various industries?\n\n\nDiese Veranstaltung was Teil unserer Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse.

SUMMARY:Built to last? Product longevity and repairability in Switzerland and beyond
DESCRIPTION:“Our economy is built on the assumption of endless growth. But when we take a closer look at the underlying resources\, we realise that this is unsustainable. We need to design products with their end of life in mind and create systems that make repair and reuse not just possible but desirable.”  \n– Kate Raworth \nIt’s now widely recognised that humanity’s throwaway and consumerist culture is profoundly unsustainable\, and that a shift towards durable and repairable products is a necessity. Of course\, with many challenges and systemic inertia to overcome\, how feasible is such a transformation?  \nThis is precisely the question we will tackle at this joint event between GreenBuzz and One Planet Lab as part of the Tsüri.ch circularity month. We will draw on perspectives from other countries to see how Switzerland can learn best repairability practices from elsewhere. Expect to hear of exciting innovations and companies who are already building in longevity from the ground up\, as well as policies and regulations which can promote this from top-down. Finally\, we will look at incentives\, jobs and skills needed to connect the dots and ensure success.  \nWhether you are already heavily involved in the topic or keen to learn more\, come and be part of the conversation.

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Investing in Water
DESCRIPTION:[German Version Below] \nThis event was part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \nFor a long time\, water has been somewhat overlooked as carbon and net-zero journeys have dominated the headlines. But the tide is turning\, with this most fundamental resource gaining greater attention. Indeed\, COP28 committed to “drive water up the climate agenda\,” something reflected in investments too\, with water steadily moving from niche to mainstream. \nAs we dedicate an event to this crucial topic which affects us all\, we will look at: \n\nWhat are the current trends and challenges in the water sector?\nWhat are the long-term prospects for water investments in the face of global megatrends like urbanization\, population growth\, and climate change?\nHow can water infrastructure in Switzerland and globally benefit from investment?\nWhat vanguard technologies are helping address water challenges?\n\nThis event is tailored for investors\, asset managers\, sustainability professionals\, policymakers\, water tech entrepreneurs\, and anyone interested in understanding the opportunities and challenges associated with investing in water. \nDon’t miss this opportunity to gain insights from industry experts\, network with like-minded professionals\, and explore how investing in water can drive both financial returns and positive environmental impact. \n“It’s time to treat water like we treat carbon. The time for action on carbon has been widely and successfully accepted. The time for action on water is now.” \n– Jay Famiglietti\, executive director of the Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS) \n\nDiese Veranstaltung war Teil unserer Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \n– Jay Famiglietti\, geschäftsführender Direktor des Global Institute for Water Security (GIWS)

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Carbon as Currency?
DESCRIPTION:Despite pledges and international agreements\, global carbon emissions are still on the rise. In order to come anywhere near reaching the 1.5 goal of the Paris Climate Agreement\, rethinking of economic systems and large scale climate solutions are needed. Digitisation is opening up new possibilities – for the environment\, the economic system and for purchasing. “Commonomics”\, for example\, is an economic model based around sustainability and grassroots initiatives\, and the 2020 blockbuster novel “The Ministry for the Future” explored the idea of a carbon coin to reduce emissions.  At this one-of-a-kind event\, we will explore the intersection of blockchain\, currency\, and carbon and explore the feasibility of a genuine greening of economics and trade. \nWe will bring together experts from economics\, digital currency and academia to address questions including: \n\nCan economic activity be linked to carbon mitigation outcomes?\nCan blockchain and digital currencies ever be sustainable or even carbon-positive?\nHow can we manage our common resources in a sustainable and equitable way?\n…and much more!\n\nJoin us for an open discussion on whether a new sustainable economy can become a reality in Switzerland and beyond.

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Digitalization\, Sustainability and Data Centers
DESCRIPTION:Alongside the social impacts of digitalization\, arguably a neglected aspect – yet a crucial piece of the puzzle – is the power and data capacities necessary to sustain growth and demand. As the World Bank states in a 2023 report\, a greening of this data infrastructure is crucial to wider sustainability efforts: “By reducing the environmental footprint of data centers\, countries can lower emissions and meet sustainability goals.” At the same time\, data centers have become indispensable to society and economic growth\, yet are themselves vulnerable to climate risks. \nAt this event held at Digital Realty – Switzerland’s largest and CO2-neutral data center – we will take a deep-dive into this critical topic which affects businesses\, individuals and society alike. With contributions from data centers\, infrastructure providers\, networks and academia\, we will look at what can be done to move us to a more sustainable IT infrastructure in terms of energy efficiency\, materials\, water usage and power.  \nAs well as this\, Digital Realty is also offering a unique behind-the-scenes look at their data center\, with an optional tour starting at 17:30 – registration required. \nInterested in joining us? \nWe kindly ask that you arrive on time if you would like to join the tour. There will be strict security on site\, so admission is only possible with government-issued ID (driving licence\, Ausweiss or passport only).  \nUpdate: the tour tickets have now sold out\, but if you are interested please add your name here so we can open up an extra tour. \nProgramme: \nTour participants:\n17:30 – 17:45 Registration and security open\n17:45 – 18:30 Tour of data center \nAll participants:\n18:00 – 18:45 Registration / Welcome Drinks\n18:45 – 20:15 Speakers input\, panel discussion and Q&A\n20:15 – 21:45 Apéro and Buzzing

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Sustainable Portfolio Strategies
DESCRIPTION:[German Version Below] \nThis event was part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \n“Firms that adopt responsible social and environmental practices become more resilient\, which helps them avoid crises and bounce back from shocks. They have lower financial volatility\, higher sales growth\, and higher chances of survival over a 15-year period; yet\, we were unable to find any differences in short-term profits.” Ortiz-de-Mandojana\, N.\, & Bansal\, P. (2016).  \nWith good reason\, sustainable investing has been on the rise\, with an increasing number of investors incorporating ESG factors into their decision-making processes. However\, the surge in sustainable investing is accompanied by challenges\, including backlash on ESG clarity and the broad definition\, highlighting the delicate balance in addressing medium to long-term global issues within the sustainable investment landscape. Despite these challenges\, there’s been tremendous growth in the underlying building blocks you can use to build a sustainable portfolio with attractive options for all types of investors. \nThe question remains: What defines a sustainable portfolio\, and how do we navigate the balance between fixed income\, equity\, and alternative investments? \nJoin us as we seek the answers to these questions and more. \nDiese Veranstaltung war Teil unserer Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse.

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Climate Reporting in Switzerland - Ready for 2025?
DESCRIPTION:EVENT SOLD OUT – Join the waiting list here  \nYou might also be interested in the Swiss climate reporting forum 2024 where we cover climate reporting in more detail at a whole day event. \nSwiss companies are required to disclose climate-related information in their annual reports starting in 2025. This new requirement is based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). \nA recent study by Enfinit found that many Swiss companies are not yet aligned with the TCFD recommendations. The study assessed the climate reporting of 40 non-financial publicly listed companies on the Swiss SIX stock exchange for the fiscal year 2022. \nThe study found that the following areas of climate reporting need the most improvement: \n\nStrategy: Companies need to better disclose how climate-related risks and opportunities impact their strategy.\nMetrics and targets: Companies need to disclose more metrics and targets related to climate-related risks and opportunities\, especially those that are financially material.\nPhysical and transition risks: Companies need to pay more attention to physical and transition risks\, and disclose how they are managing these.\nAs expected\, companies with higher revenues are generally better aligned with the TCFD recommendations. However\, even the largest companies do not fully comply with the TCFD recommendations.\n\nWe will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the following topics: \n\nThe new climate reporting requirement in Switzerland\nHow to align your company’s climate reporting with the TCFD recommendations\nCase studies and best practices for climate reporting\n\nWho should attend? \nThis event is for anyone involved in climate reporting\, including: \n\nSustainability managers\nCFOs\nBoard members\nConsultants\nInvestors\n\nRegister today to learn how to prepare your company for the new climate reporting requirement. This event is in partnership with Pelt8\, Enfinit and SIX. \n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30 \n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45 \n\n\nWelcome by GreenBuzz\, Pelt8 and Christian Reuss (SIX) \n\n\n\n\n18:45 – 19:00 \n\n\nPresentation of state of readiness of Swiss companies by Qendresa Rugova (Enfinit) \n\n\n\n\n19:00 – 19:20 \n\n\nDiscussion with Christoph Baumann (SIF) and Vera Sokulskyj (SIX) \n\n\n\n\n19:20 – 19:50 \n\n\nSpeaker inputs* \n\n\n\n\n19:50 – 20:15 \n\n\nPanel discussion with speakers and wrap up \n\n\n\n\n20:15 – 21:30 \n\n\nApéro and buzzing in small discussion groups \n\n\n\n\n*Speakers \nAntonio Carrillo Doblado\, VP Sustainability at Holcim \nAdrian Kyburz\, Director PMO & Engagement\, Sustainability and ESG Office at Novartis \nRob Wyse\, Climate & Nature Manager at Zurich Insurance

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Biodiversity Reporting Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse (German version below).  \nJoin us as we discuss the pivotal topic of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and its potential impact on our planet’s biodiversity. With a critical lens\, we discuss both the promises and criticisms surrounding TNFD\, while addressing the vital role data providers and users play in ensuring the efficacy of these initiatives. \nThe Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is an initiative aimed at encouraging businesses to disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature and biodiversity\, similar to the way the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) addresses climate risks. While TNFD has the potential to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices\, it has also faced some criticisms. \nCan the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) truly catalyze positive change? \nWe will share experiences of some of the following challenges and how we can move ahead positively: \n\nBiodiversity Data Availability and Quality\nComplexity of data and Implementation strategies\nMateriality and Relevance of different measures across industries\nGreenwashing Concerns\nIntegration with Existing Frameworks such as TCFD\n\nBiodiversity reporting frameworks like TNFD are vital for companies to mitigate risks tied to ecosystem dependencies\, boost stakeholder trust through ethical practices\, enhance resilience against environmental shocks\, and align businesses with evolving sustainability expectations for long-term success. \nWe look forward to discussing this topic over drinks after some short inputs from practitioners. \n  \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45\nWelcome by GreenBuzz and Michael Liechti\, Senior ESG Advisor at RepRisk\n\n\n18:45 – 18:55\nSpeaker input by Philipp Staudacher\, SDG Research Nature & Biodiversity at radicant\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nSpeaker input by Florian Oeschger\, Advisor Sustainable Finance at WWF\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15\nSpeaker input by Anne de Chastonay\, Product Manager\, Geospatial Analytics at RepRisk\n\n\n19:15 – 19:45\nPanel discussion and audience questions\n\n\n19:45 – 21:00\nApéro & Buzzing!\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Scope 3 Event Series: Beyond Borders - Protecting human rights in global supply chains
DESCRIPTION:With more than 450 million people working in supply chain-related jobs\, it is crucial that we address the environmental and social impacts associated with complex global supply chains. The current globalized economy requires businesses to source goods and services from suppliers that often span multiple countries with radically different legal\, regulatory\, and environmental practices. While these complex supply chains provide economic and social development opportunities\, they also pose significant environmental and social risks that many companies have been unable to effectively mitigate (United Nations Global Compact Progress Report 2019).\nThe UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and other international norms for companies are not legally binding\, and many companies have inadequate or no human rights due diligence measures in place. However\, there have been significant developments in this regard. The EU Parliament recently approved the highly anticipated Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). This directive is expected to be transposed across the EU in the next couple of years\, and will require companies to conduct due diligence on human rights and environmental-related issues in their operations and supply chains\, across various areas. Non-compliance with this directive can lead to substantial financial and criminal consequences\, as well as civil liabilities for damages caused by human rights or environmental issues.\nThe event will address key questions such as: \n\nWhat does the CSDDD mean for businesses?\nWhat are the challenges faced by companies in implementing human rights due diligence?\nHow can these challenges be overcome?\nHow are asset managers navigating these potential risks?\nHow can companies\, international organizations\, governments\, and civil society organizations work together to promote responsible supply chain practices?\n\nScope 3 is not only about emission reduction but also about addressing the broader environmental and social impacts associated with global supply chains.\n\n\nProgramme:\n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45\nWelcome by GreenBuzz & moderator Camilla Leopoldino (Vontobel)\n\n\n18:45 – 18:55\nSpeaker Input by Rachel Brooks\, Head of Executive Education at the University of St. Gallen (CSI-HSG) \n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nSpeaker Input by  Daniel Vaughan-Whitehead\, Founder of the Fair Wage Network\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15\nSpeaker Input by Ally Wong\, Sustainable Investing/ ESG Researcher at Robeco\n\n\n19:15 – 19:45\nModerated Q&A*\n\n\n19:45 – 21:30\nApéro and Buzzing!\n\n\n\n  \n
