SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Sustainable Portfolio Strategies
DESCRIPTION:[German Version Below] \nThis event was part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \n“Firms that adopt responsible social and environmental practices become more resilient\, which helps them avoid crises and bounce back from shocks. They have lower financial volatility\, higher sales growth\, and higher chances of survival over a 15-year period; yet\, we were unable to find any differences in short-term profits.” Ortiz-de-Mandojana\, N.\, & Bansal\, P. (2016).  \nWith good reason\, sustainable investing has been on the rise\, with an increasing number of investors incorporating ESG factors into their decision-making processes. However\, the surge in sustainable investing is accompanied by challenges\, including backlash on ESG clarity and the broad definition\, highlighting the delicate balance in addressing medium to long-term global issues within the sustainable investment landscape. Despite these challenges\, there’s been tremendous growth in the underlying building blocks you can use to build a sustainable portfolio with attractive options for all types of investors. \nThe question remains: What defines a sustainable portfolio\, and how do we navigate the balance between fixed income\, equity\, and alternative investments? \nJoin us as we seek the answers to these questions and more. \nDiese Veranstaltung war Teil unserer Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse.

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Climate Reporting in Switzerland - Ready for 2025?
DESCRIPTION:EVENT SOLD OUT – Join the waiting list here  \nYou might also be interested in the Swiss climate reporting forum 2024 where we cover climate reporting in more detail at a whole day event. \nSwiss companies are required to disclose climate-related information in their annual reports starting in 2025. This new requirement is based on the recommendations of the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD). \nA recent study by Enfinit found that many Swiss companies are not yet aligned with the TCFD recommendations. The study assessed the climate reporting of 40 non-financial publicly listed companies on the Swiss SIX stock exchange for the fiscal year 2022. \nThe study found that the following areas of climate reporting need the most improvement: \n\nStrategy: Companies need to better disclose how climate-related risks and opportunities impact their strategy.\nMetrics and targets: Companies need to disclose more metrics and targets related to climate-related risks and opportunities\, especially those that are financially material.\nPhysical and transition risks: Companies need to pay more attention to physical and transition risks\, and disclose how they are managing these.\nAs expected\, companies with higher revenues are generally better aligned with the TCFD recommendations. However\, even the largest companies do not fully comply with the TCFD recommendations.\n\nWe will feature a panel of experts who will discuss the following topics: \n\nThe new climate reporting requirement in Switzerland\nHow to align your company’s climate reporting with the TCFD recommendations\nCase studies and best practices for climate reporting\n\nWho should attend? \nThis event is for anyone involved in climate reporting\, including: \n\nSustainability managers\nCFOs\nBoard members\nConsultants\nInvestors\n\nRegister today to learn how to prepare your company for the new climate reporting requirement. This event is in partnership with Pelt8\, Enfinit and SIX. \n\nProgramme: \n\n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30 \n\n\nRegistration \n\n\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45 \n\n\nWelcome by GreenBuzz\, Pelt8 and Christian Reuss (SIX) \n\n\n\n\n18:45 – 19:00 \n\n\nPresentation of state of readiness of Swiss companies by Qendresa Rugova (Enfinit) \n\n\n\n\n19:00 – 19:20 \n\n\nDiscussion with Christoph Baumann (SIF) and Vera Sokulskyj (SIX) \n\n\n\n\n19:20 – 19:50 \n\n\nSpeaker inputs* \n\n\n\n\n19:50 – 20:15 \n\n\nPanel discussion with speakers and wrap up \n\n\n\n\n20:15 – 21:30 \n\n\nApéro and buzzing in small discussion groups \n\n\n\n\n*Speakers \nAntonio Carrillo Doblado\, VP Sustainability at Holcim \nAdrian Kyburz\, Director PMO & Engagement\, Sustainability and ESG Office at Novartis \nRob Wyse\, Climate & Nature Manager at Zurich Insurance

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Biodiversity Reporting Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse (German version below).  \nJoin us as we discuss the pivotal topic of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and its potential impact on our planet’s biodiversity. With a critical lens\, we discuss both the promises and criticisms surrounding TNFD\, while addressing the vital role data providers and users play in ensuring the efficacy of these initiatives. \nThe Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is an initiative aimed at encouraging businesses to disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature and biodiversity\, similar to the way the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) addresses climate risks. While TNFD has the potential to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices\, it has also faced some criticisms. \nCan the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) truly catalyze positive change? \nWe will share experiences of some of the following challenges and how we can move ahead positively: \n\nBiodiversity Data Availability and Quality\nComplexity of data and Implementation strategies\nMateriality and Relevance of different measures across industries\nGreenwashing Concerns\nIntegration with Existing Frameworks such as TCFD\n\nBiodiversity reporting frameworks like TNFD are vital for companies to mitigate risks tied to ecosystem dependencies\, boost stakeholder trust through ethical practices\, enhance resilience against environmental shocks\, and align businesses with evolving sustainability expectations for long-term success. \nWe look forward to discussing this topic over drinks after some short inputs from practitioners. \n  \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45\nWelcome by GreenBuzz and Michael Liechti\, Senior ESG Advisor at RepRisk\n\n\n18:45 – 18:55\nSpeaker input by Philipp Staudacher\, SDG Research Nature & Biodiversity at radicant\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nSpeaker input by Florian Oeschger\, Advisor Sustainable Finance at WWF\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15\nSpeaker input by Anne de Chastonay\, Product Manager\, Geospatial Analytics at RepRisk\n\n\n19:15 – 19:45\nPanel discussion and audience questions\n\n\n19:45 – 21:00\nApéro & Buzzing!\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Scope 3 Event Series: Beyond Borders - Protecting human rights in global supply chains
DESCRIPTION:With more than 450 million people working in supply chain-related jobs\, it is crucial that we address the environmental and social impacts associated with complex global supply chains. The current globalized economy requires businesses to source goods and services from suppliers that often span multiple countries with radically different legal\, regulatory\, and environmental practices. While these complex supply chains provide economic and social development opportunities\, they also pose significant environmental and social risks that many companies have been unable to effectively mitigate (United Nations Global Compact Progress Report 2019).\nThe UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights and other international norms for companies are not legally binding\, and many companies have inadequate or no human rights due diligence measures in place. However\, there have been significant developments in this regard. The EU Parliament recently approved the highly anticipated Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CSDDD). This directive is expected to be transposed across the EU in the next couple of years\, and will require companies to conduct due diligence on human rights and environmental-related issues in their operations and supply chains\, across various areas. Non-compliance with this directive can lead to substantial financial and criminal consequences\, as well as civil liabilities for damages caused by human rights or environmental issues.\nThe event will address key questions such as: \n\nWhat does the CSDDD mean for businesses?\nWhat are the challenges faced by companies in implementing human rights due diligence?\nHow can these challenges be overcome?\nHow are asset managers navigating these potential risks?\nHow can companies\, international organizations\, governments\, and civil society organizations work together to promote responsible supply chain practices?\n\nScope 3 is not only about emission reduction but also about addressing the broader environmental and social impacts associated with global supply chains.\n\n\nProgramme:\n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45\nWelcome by GreenBuzz & moderator Camilla Leopoldino (Vontobel)\n\n\n18:45 – 18:55\nSpeaker Input by Rachel Brooks\, Head of Executive Education at the University of St. Gallen (CSI-HSG) \n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nSpeaker Input by  Daniel Vaughan-Whitehead\, Founder of the Fair Wage Network\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15\nSpeaker Input by Ally Wong\, Sustainable Investing/ ESG Researcher at Robeco\n\n\n19:15 – 19:45\nModerated Q&A*\n\n\n19:45 – 21:30\nApéro and Buzzing!\n\n\n\n  \n

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Collaboration models to accelerate climate action in humanitarian settings
DESCRIPTION:Climate change affects every aspect of people’s lives\, both creating and exacerbating humanitarian crises around the world. Warming of the atmosphere\, ocean and land – driven by human activity – is causing climate variations and extremes all over the world\, with over three billion people living in places that are highly vulnerable to climate change. Action taken to date by the international community has been insufficient to prevent or reverse these trends. \nNo one can address these challenges alone. New solutions and inspiring partnerships are needed now to prevent further suffering\, the need for new collaboration models to bolster climate action and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities has never been more urgent. \nWe are pleased to partner with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Swiss Re Foundation to showcase the potential impact of philanthropic giving and the power of cross-sectoral partnerships to strengthen climate action. \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:40\nWelcome by GreenBuzz\n\n\n18:40 – 18:50\nWelcome by Stefan Huber\, Director at Swiss Re Foundation\n\n\n18:50 – 18:55 \nShort film screening\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nKeynote by Patrick Youssef\, Regional Director- Africa at International Committee of the Red Cross\n\n\n19:05 – 19:45\nPanel discussion moderated by GreenBuzz*\n\n\n19:45 – 20:00\nQ&A\n\n\n20:00 – 21:30\nApéro\n\n\n\n*Panelists: \n\nPatrick Youssef\, Regional Director- Africa at International Committee of the Red Cross\nCatalina Jaime\, Head of Climate and Conflict at Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre\nLuis Alvarado\, Head of GAEA at World Economic Forum

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Leveraging Data in Sustainability Reporting for Competitive Advantage
DESCRIPTION:The situation in the EU regarding sustainability reporting is evolving rapidly. There is a growing emphasis on corporate sustainability and transparency\, with a focus on the environmental\, social\, and governance aspects of business operations. The EU has taken significant steps to establish a comprehensive framework for sustainability reporting to drive sustainable practices across various sectors including Non-Financial Reporting Directive (NFRD)\, The EU Taxonomy Regulation\, The Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR) and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).\nThese developments in the EU have far-reaching implications for Switzerland\, as it shares close economic ties and regulatory alignment with the EU. Swiss companies operating in or trading with the EU will likely be subject to these reporting requirements\, even if not directly mandated by Swiss regulations. Therefore\, it becomes crucial for Swiss businesses to stay informed and prepare for the upcoming changes to ensure compliance and maintain market competitiveness.\nHowever\, the implementation of sustainability reporting requirements can be complex. It requires the collection of a wide range of data and information throughout the value chain\, which necessitates clear\, practical\, and unambiguous guidelines. Horizontal collaboration between all stakeholders\, including businesses\, regulators\, and civil society\, as well as vertical collaboration within organizations\, is critical for effective implementation and the achievement of sustainable outcomes. Therefore we will come together with many different stakeholders to discuss:\n\nWhat is the current situation in the EU regarding sustainability reporting?\nHow does the EU legislation impact Switzerland and its reporting practices?\nWhat kind of data and information will be required along the value chain\, and how can organizations effectively collect and report it?\nWhy is horizontal collaboration between all stakeholders and vertical collaboration crucial for effective implementation?\n\nDuring this event\, industry experts and thought leaders will share their insights and experiences\, shedding light on the regulatory landscape in both the EU and Switzerland. Don’t miss this opportunity to connect with like-minded professionals\, engage in meaningful discussions\, and stay ahead of the sustainability reporting curve. Register now to secure your spot at the sustainability reporting event hosted by GreenBuzz Zurich with our partners ecoinvent and Swisscom.\nProgramme:\n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:40\nWelcome by GreenBuzz and moderator Marion Gloor (Swisscom)\n\n\n18:40 – 18:55\nSpeaker input by Baptiste Carriere-Pradal\, Co-Founder & Director of 2BPolicy\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05 \nQ&A with Baptiste Carriere-Pradal\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15 \nSpeaker input by Res Witschi\, Sustainable digitisation at Swisscom\n\n\n19:15 – 19:25\nSpeaker input by Nickolas Meyer\, CEO of ecoinvent\n\n\n19:25 – 20:00\nRoundtable discussion with panelists – Speakers will be joined by 2 industry experts\n\n\n20:00 – 21:30 \nApéro & Buzzing!

SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Tech for Scope 3
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of the Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse. \nJoin us to explore the intersection of technology and sustainability in the context of Scope 3 emissions. We will discuss some case studies for measuring\, managing\, and mitigating Scope 3 emissions\, with a particular focus on the role of technology in facilitating this process. \nScope 3 emissions are the largest and most challenging component of a company’s carbon footprint\, as they encompass a wide range of indirect emissions that occur along the entire value chain\, from suppliers to end users. However\, with the right tools and technologies\, companies can gain a deeper understanding of their Scope 3 emissions and identify opportunities to reduce them. \nPolestar is at the forefront of the Scope 3 and technology landscape. They will share their insights and experiences on topics such as: \n\nInnovation and collaboration: driving Scope 3 emission solutions\nMeasuring Scope 3 emissions: how can technology help\nEngaging suppliers and customers\nIntegrating Scope 3 emissions into sustainability goals\nThe Role of Carbon Capture Technology in Scope 3\n\nJoin us for a lively and informative evening of networking\, learning\, and discussion with sustainability professionals from the Zurich area. SUMMARY:Informal Drinks: Greenwashing
DESCRIPTION:In 2021\, the oil giant Shell announced its aim to spend between $2 billion and $3 billion per year on renewables and energy solutions. It also reported having directed 12 percent of its capital expenditure to these areas. However\, international NGO Global Witness claims that the company directed just 1.5 percent of its capital expenditure to developing renewable energy sources\, such as wind and solar power\, with the rest of the spending going toward gas. As a result\, Shell is now facing accusations of greenwashing and misleading investors (see Washington Post 2023). We see similar examples in the press every day. \nGreenwashing refers to the practice of making false or misleading claims about how a company’s products are environmentally sound and involves making an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into thinking that a product or company is more environmentally friendly than it actually is. \nAs businesses and organizations increasingly try to position themselves as environmentally and socially responsible\, it can be difficult to discern genuine sustainability efforts from mere marketing stunts. \nJoin us and Greenwishing on June 21st to discuss the following questions: \n\nHow can we recognize Greenwashing?\nWhat regulations are coming to prevent Greenwashing?\nHow do we call out examples?\nGreenwashing accusations have damaged important Green initiatives\, how do we prevent this?\n\nBy becoming better informed\, we can help to hold businesses and organizations accountable for their environmental and social claims and contribute to a more sustainable future!

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Loss & Damage Fund - A step towards climate justice?
DESCRIPTION:Those who contribute the least to greenhouse gas emissions often end up bearing the brunt of climate impacts. This is why\, for many\, the “loss and damage” caused by climate change is at its heart an issue of climate justice. \nClimate justice is more than a moral issue. It is an economic issue. \nAt COP27 in November 2022\, a Loss and Damage (L&D) Fund was established to help those most affected by the climate crisis. This fund is dubbed a historic achievement by many and a critical step towards achieving our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring climate justice. \nThe L&D Fund is designed to provide financial support to vulnerable communities and countries that are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis. This includes those who are suffering from extreme weather events\, sea level rise\, and other climate-related disasters. By providing financial support\, the fund will help these communities to recover and build resilience to future climate impacts. \nWe will be joined by speakers from finance\, Swiss Youth for Climate\, and business\, who will be sharing their perspectives on these important questions: \n\nHow should companies be held to account for Loss and Damage?\nWhat criteria will be used to determine which countries are eligible for funding?\nWhat types of activities will be supported by the Loss and Damage Fund?\nWhat measures can be taken to ensure that funds are used appropriately and not misappropriated by governments?\n\nThis event is brought to you in collaboration with the One Planet Lab. \nThe Loss and Damage Fund is a critical step towards achieving our SDGs and ensuring climate justice. We hope you can join us to discuss the importance of this fund and how we can ensure its success. \n\n–

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Thematic Event: Future of Food - How to feed 8 billion sustainably?
DESCRIPTION:By 2050\, we will have to feed 10 billion people\, and our current food systems are not up to the challenge. While demand is ever-increasing\, resources are in decline. It is a vicious cycle that is further exacerbated by unsustainable agricultural practices and food systems that have negative effects on biodiversity\, the environment and our health. \nBut what has to change in order to achieve a more sustainable food system? \nA recent article by Prof. Robert Finger from the World Food System Center (WFSC) of ETH Zurich\, outlines the most important fields of action to make the food system more sustainable. These include avoiding waste\, increasing efficiency\, closing cycles and replacing and improving current practices. \nTechnological advancements will certainly help. For example\, precision fermentation needs 1\,700 times less land than even the most efficient agricultural means of producing protein available today. However\, food is deeply rooted in our cultures\, so change will be difficult to achieve. Therefore\, we need to start discussing solutions now and turn them into reality. \nJoin this event and learn more about the challenges in our food system and concrete actions to make it more sustainable. \nOur speakers will focus on the areas highlighted in the above report. \n6 Key areas: \n\nAvoid Waste\nIncrease efficiency\nReplace and improve\nFight the cause not the symptoms\nClose cycles\nPromote acceptance and sustainable behaviour\n\n\n–
