SUMMARY:Networking Event Series: Biodiversity Reporting Frameworks
DESCRIPTION:This event is part of our Networking Event Series powered by Innosuisse (German version below).  \nJoin us as we discuss the pivotal topic of the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) and its potential impact on our planet’s biodiversity. With a critical lens\, we discuss both the promises and criticisms surrounding TNFD\, while addressing the vital role data providers and users play in ensuring the efficacy of these initiatives. \nThe Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) is an initiative aimed at encouraging businesses to disclose their impacts and dependencies on nature and biodiversity\, similar to the way the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD) addresses climate risks. While TNFD has the potential to promote biodiversity conservation and sustainable practices\, it has also faced some criticisms. \nCan the Task Force on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) truly catalyze positive change? \nWe will share experiences of some of the following challenges and how we can move ahead positively: \n\nBiodiversity Data Availability and Quality\nComplexity of data and Implementation strategies\nMateriality and Relevance of different measures across industries\nGreenwashing Concerns\nIntegration with Existing Frameworks such as TCFD\n\nBiodiversity reporting frameworks like TNFD are vital for companies to mitigate risks tied to ecosystem dependencies\, boost stakeholder trust through ethical practices\, enhance resilience against environmental shocks\, and align businesses with evolving sustainability expectations for long-term success. \nWe look forward to discussing this topic over drinks after some short inputs from practitioners. \n  \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:45\nWelcome by GreenBuzz and Michael Liechti\, Senior ESG Advisor at RepRisk\n\n\n18:45 – 18:55\nSpeaker input by Philipp Staudacher\, SDG Research Nature & Biodiversity at radicant\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nSpeaker input by Florian Oeschger\, Advisor Sustainable Finance at WWF\n\n\n19:05 – 19:15\nSpeaker input by Anne de Chastonay\, Product Manager\, Geospatial Analytics at RepRisk\n\n\n19:15 – 19:45\nPanel discussion and audience questions\n\n\n19:45 – 21:00\nApéro & Buzzing!\n\n\n\n

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Collaboration models to accelerate climate action in humanitarian settings
DESCRIPTION:Climate change affects every aspect of people’s lives\, both creating and exacerbating humanitarian crises around the world. Warming of the atmosphere\, ocean and land – driven by human activity – is causing climate variations and extremes all over the world\, with over three billion people living in places that are highly vulnerable to climate change. Action taken to date by the international community has been insufficient to prevent or reverse these trends. \nNo one can address these challenges alone. New solutions and inspiring partnerships are needed now to prevent further suffering\, the need for new collaboration models to bolster climate action and strengthen the resilience of vulnerable communities has never been more urgent. \nWe are pleased to partner with the International Committee of the Red Cross and Swiss Re Foundation to showcase the potential impact of philanthropic giving and the power of cross-sectoral partnerships to strengthen climate action. \nProgramme: \n\n\n\n18:00 – 18:30\nRegistration\n\n\n18:30 – 18:40\nWelcome by GreenBuzz\n\n\n18:40 – 18:50\nWelcome by Stefan Huber\, Director at Swiss Re Foundation\n\n\n18:50 – 18:55 \nShort film screening\n\n\n18:55 – 19:05\nKeynote by Patrick Youssef\, Regional Director- Africa at International Committee of the Red Cross\n\n\n19:05 – 19:45\nPanel discussion moderated by GreenBuzz*\n\n\n19:45 – 20:00\nQ&A\n\n\n20:00 – 21:30\nApéro\n\n\n\n*Panelists: \n\nPatrick Youssef\, Regional Director- Africa at International Committee of the Red Cross\nCatalina Jaime\, Head of Climate and Conflict at Red Cross Red Crescent Climate Centre\nLuis Alvarado\, Head of GAEA at World Economic Forum

SUMMARY:Thematic Event: Loss & Damage Fund - A step towards climate justice?
DESCRIPTION:Those who contribute the least to greenhouse gas emissions often end up bearing the brunt of climate impacts. This is why\, for many\, the “loss and damage” caused by climate change is at its heart an issue of climate justice. \nClimate justice is more than a moral issue. It is an economic issue. \nAt COP27 in November 2022\, a Loss and Damage (L&D) Fund was established to help those most affected by the climate crisis. This fund is dubbed a historic achievement by many and a critical step towards achieving our Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and ensuring climate justice. \nThe L&D Fund is designed to provide financial support to vulnerable communities and countries that are disproportionately affected by the climate crisis. This includes those who are suffering from extreme weather events\, sea level rise\, and other climate-related disasters. By providing financial support\, the fund will help these communities to recover and build resilience to future climate impacts. \nWe will be joined by speakers from finance\, Swiss Youth for Climate\, and business\, who will be sharing their perspectives on these important questions: \n\nHow should companies be held to account for Loss and Damage?\nWhat criteria will be used to determine which countries are eligible for funding?\nWhat types of activities will be supported by the Loss and Damage Fund?\nWhat measures can be taken to ensure that funds are used appropriately and not misappropriated by governments?\n\nThis event is brought to you in collaboration with the One Planet Lab. \nThe Loss and Damage Fund is a critical step towards achieving our SDGs and ensuring climate justice. We hope you can join us to discuss the importance of this fund and how we can ensure its success. \n\n–

SUMMARY:SOLD OUT - Climate Change & Biodiversity Loss - How do we tackle both?
DESCRIPTION:It is time to put biodiversity back on the agenda again! Join us and WWF on February 28th\, 2023\, to discuss this important issue.\n\n\nBiodiversity loss has been pushed out of the global agenda by climate change\, even though both issues are closely linked\, have similar impacts on human welfare and need to be tackled urgently\, together. \nIn fact\, the architects of the Paris Agreement say: “There is no pathway to limiting global warming to 1.5C without action on protecting and restoring nature. Only by taking urgent action to halt and reverse the loss of nature this decade\, while continuing to step up efforts to rapidly decarbonise our economies\, can we hope to achieve the promise of the Paris Agreement.” (The Guardian; November 2022) \nIn their Living Planet Report (2022)\, WWF found that there has been a catastrophic average decline of 69% in species populations since 1970. “A million plant and animal species are threatened with extinction\, we have lost half of the world’s corals and lose forest areas the size of 27 football fields every minute.” This is alarming\, as we are highly dependent on a thriving natural ecosystem to provide us with our essential human needs\, such as food\, clothing\, medicine etc. \nIt becomes clear that\, just like in the case of climate change\, businesses need to care about biodiversity. There are immense risks attached to an ever warming planet and biodiversity loss. At the same time\, this dual crisis should not be reduced to just a discussion about risk. Right now\, businesses have the opportunity to have a positive impact on both the climate and biodiversity regeneration! \nAt this event\, we therefore want to get to the bottom of questions like: \n\nHow are climate change and biodiversity loss interconnected? \nHow can they be tackled together\, as a dual crisis? \nWhat’s the role of businesses\, and why should they care? \n\nSo\, it is time to put biodiversity back on the agenda again! Join us and WWF on February 28th\, 2023\, to discuss this important issue.
